Salakati Police in Assam’s Kokrajhar district successfully foiled a case of cattle theft, recovering four stolen cows and arresting two individuals involved in the crime.
The incident occurred around 4 AM on Saturday, June 28 when unidentified miscreants allegedly broke into the cowshed of Aduri Bala Roy, a resident of Benibari village under Salakati, and loaded four cows into a vehicle. The theft triggered alarm among the residents when the household discovered the missing livestock.
Following swift action, locals alerted Salakati Police, who launched a pursuit operation. The stolen cattle, along with the accused, were intercepted near Borsong village, close to the national highway at Karigaon.
Two suspects — Khairul Haque, son of Ajahar Ali, and Sukur Ali, son of Jamal Ali — both hailing from Kathaldik in Bilasipara, Dhubri district, were apprehended during the operation. The stolen cows were recovered unharmed.
During the operation, authorities also seized an unregistered Bolero pickup van, plastic and rubber ropes, sharp-edged weapons, and other materials believed to have been used in the crime.
The accused are currently in police custody and are being interrogated for further details. Preliminary investigation suggests the involvement of additional accomplices, who are suspected to have escaped in another vehicle, possibly a white Alto car.
Police officials have assured that efforts are underway to trace and nab the remaining members of the cattle theft gang.
