Chaygaon Police apprehended a man in the Gabardhan area under Chaygaon Police Station on Tuesday. The arrested individual, identified as Ziarul Ali from Mahamaya Char in South Shalmara, was found in possession of a substantial quantity of illicit drugs.
The operation, led by Officer-in-Charge Bhaskar Malla Patowary, was executed following a tip-off from Kamrup Superintendent of Police Ranjan Bhuyan. Authorities discovered the drugs concealed within 14 soap boxes, with a total weight of 203 grams. The estimated market value of the seized drugs stands at approximately ₹6 lakh.
Earlier, on September 20, Assam Police achieved a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking. Acting on reliable intelligence, the police intercepted a truck in Banskandi, Cachar, leading to the recovery of a large consignment of illicit substances. Upon conducting a thorough search, authorities discovered 18,000 YABA tablets and 2 kilograms of crystalline methamphetamine, with an estimated market value of ₹15.5 crore.
Two individuals were arrested at the scene in connection with this drug haul.
