Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Gelapukhuri Tea Estate in Tinsukia district and met the families of 20 people who died in a road accident in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district earlier this month.
During the visit, the Chief Minister expressed condolences to the bereaved families and handed over cheques of Rs 5 lakh each as one-time financial assistance from the Assam government.
He also announced that the Government of India would provide an additional ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh to each of the affected families.
The Chief Minister further assured that the state government would take necessary steps to facilitate employment for the families of the deceased within the tea estate.
The accident had occurred on December 8 in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, claiming the lives of 20 people, most of whom belonged to tea garden worker families from Assam.
