Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 20, expressed confidence that the BJP will form the government in West Bengal, claiming the political atmosphere in the state is “very good” for the party ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Referring to alleged “syndicate raj” in the state, Sarma issued a stern warning, saying those involved should “surrender before the 29th, otherwise go to jail later.”
His remarks come in line with statements by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of running a network of corruption, extortion and mafia-like activities. Modi has alleged that such syndicates control sectors like coal and cold storage in the state.
The Prime Minister has also promised strict action, describing it as a “permanent surgery” to dismantle the alleged syndicate system if the BJP comes to power.
