Assam CM promises full district status for Tamulpur, focus on border issues

On the second day of his extensive tour across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed his government’s commitment to maintaining peace and driving development in the region. Visiting three council constituencies, 26 No. Darrangajuli, 27 No. Nagrijuli, and 29 No. Shuklai-Serfang in Tamulpur district, the Chief Minister addressed a series of party workers’ meetings and public gatherings.

CM Sarma began his day by interacting with BJP karyakartas in Darrangajuli, followed by similar meetings in Nagrijuli and Shuklai-Serfang. Throughout the events, he emphasized the party’s focus on ensuring stability, inclusive governance, and socio-economic progress in the BTR.

Addressing the crowd, CM Sarma stated, “Since assuming office as Chief Minister, not a single bullet has been fired in the BTR. There have been no communal clashes. The fear and anxiety that once loomed over this region have disappeared. We have delivered peace in the last five years; now, we must deliver development in the next five.”

He further reiterated his government’s vision of inclusive progress, stating that all communities in BTR must be treated equally and respectfully:

“There are no second-class citizens in the BTR. Every individual here deserves to be treated as a first-class citizen. We will change the face of this region in the coming five years. Strengthen the BJP in Kokrajhar, and we will ensure continued development.”

Highlighting his contributions to administrative reforms, CM Sarma said the Tamulpur district, which was created during his tenure, will soon receive official recognition as a full-fledged district within Assam.

Addressing the issue of cross-border concerns, the Chief Minister assured that citizens of Assam would not be left vulnerable:

“If a Bhutanese vehicle is involved in an accident, our people must receive compensation and support. We will ensure their rights are protected.”

CM Sarma also stressed the need to maintain the hard-earned peace in the region by addressing illegal immigration concerns, “We will carry out evictions against those suspected to be illegal immigrants and extend support to those who genuinely deserve it. The peace established in the BTR will not only be preserved but further strengthened.”
