A major road accident was reported from Borotalowa in Assam’s Chirang district on Saturday (May 17), where a coal-laden container truck veered off National Highway 27 and overturned near Jamtola under Kajalgaon Police Station limits.
The vehicle, en route from Guwahati to Bihar, lost control and fell off the highway in the early hours of the day.
Eyewitnesses reported a loud crash, following which locals rushed to the scene and rescued the driver, who miraculously survived the accident with minor injuries. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
While the exact cause of the accident remains unknown, initial reports suggest that the truck may have lost balance due to the heavy load and a possible steering malfunction. Police are investigating the incident.
The accident caused a complete blockade of the sub-road connecting Jamtola to Barpathar, disrupting local traffic for several hours.
Authorities are working to remove the overturned container and restore normal movement along the route.
