Assam: Congress-BJP supporters clash in Samaguri’s Barma, journalists allegedly attacked

Tension reportedly prevailed in Barma area of Samaguri constituency after supporters of the Congress and BJP allegedly clashed during a Congress election rally attended by MP Rakibul Hussain, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and party candidate Sibamoni Bora.

According to reports, BJP supporters allegedly raised black flags and shouted “Go Back” slogans as the Congress rally passed through the area. The situation subsequently escalated, with reports of stone-pelting targeting vehicles associated with the Congress rally.

Some individuals, reportedly wearing masks, allegedly hurled stones at Congress rally vehicles from a distance, including near Lorigamukh, creating tension in the area.

The situation reportedly prompted the deployment of police and paramilitary personnel, who attempted to bring the situation under control. There are also allegations that several journalists covering the incident were attacked amid the ensuing commotion.

The exact circumstances leading to the confrontation, including who initiated the violence and the extent of injuries or property damage, have not been independently established.
