Congress ticket aspirant Geeta Devi Gogoi on Thursday, February 26, addressed a press meet in Assam's Bajali and said that the party will not give up the Bajali constituency to any other party under the opposition alliance.
She stated that, so far, there has been no decision to leave the seat for the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) or any other alliance partner. Gogoi alleged that AJP leader Dilip Baruah has been spreading false claims regarding the seat-sharing arrangement.
According to her, the Congress has already informed the central leadership that the party has sufficient strength in Bajali and is confident about contesting the seat. She reiterated that the party has not agreed to give the constituency to any other opposition party.
However, she pointed out that reports have appeared in sections of the media claiming that Dilip Baruah has secured the seat as the opposition unity forum’s AJP candidate.
Gogoi questioned how internal discussions and confusion among opposition parties would help in winning back the Bajali constituency.
