A delegation of Congress MLAs visiting the eviction site at Hashila Beel in Goalpara district was allegedly stopped by the police and administration on Tuesday, sparking strong criticism from party leaders.
The delegation, led by South Abhayapuri MLA Wajed Ali Choudhury and including MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed, alleged that they were prevented from distributing food and essential supplies to families evicted from Hashila Beel under the Balijana Revenue Circle.
“We were obstructed from meeting the evicted families and offering basic support. This is nothing short of Hitler rule,” said Ahmed, sharply criticising the state government’s handling of the situation.
The eviction drive began last Monday, targeting what the administration describes as illegal encroachment of government land.

According to official reports, 667 families had been residing illegally on approximately 45% of 1,555 bighas of land identified under Dag Numbers 102 and 431.
On Sunday, the district administration, supported by a large contingent of security personnel, evicted around 60% of the remaining occupants to prevent law and order issues.
While prevented from reaching the site, the Congress delegation met with the Goalpara Deputy Commissioner and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor and the President of India.
The memorandum demands an immediate halt to what they called "inhuman" eviction drives and seeks proper rehabilitation measures for the affected families.
The administration, meanwhile, has maintained that the eviction is part of a legal process to reclaim government land and restore the wetland area.
