Assam: Congress MLA faction clash erupts during meeting in Goalpara

A clash erupted between two factions of Congress MLAs during a meeting held at the Goalpara district office. The confrontation occurred in the presence of Congress Central Committee General Secretary, Prithiraj Kaur. The clash, which took place at the Congress executive meeting, involved MLAs Zakir Hussain Sikdar, AK Rashid Alam from Goalpara East Assembly constituency, and Abdur Rashid Mondal from Goalpara West constituency.

This incident of internal discord comes as a reminder of a similar clash that unfolded in September 2022. During a meeting to deliberate on the Bharat Jodo Yatra at Assam's Dhubri district's Rajiv Bhawan, a clash emerged between two groups of Congress workers. The commotion transpired in the presence of leaders from the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. 
Despite these clashes, local party leaders have consistently dismissed claims of a deep-seated division within the party. They've attributed these incidents to misconceptions that need to be addressed and resolved.
