The Indian National Congress on Sunday staged a protest in Nagaon, accusing the BJP-led government of gross negligence and a complete failure in ensuring the safety and well-being of women.
The protest was held in front of the District Congress office, where party members voiced strong concerns over the alleged suicide of Jyotsita Das, an assistant engineer with the Public Works Department (PWD) in Bongaigaon.
Congress leaders alleged that Jyotsita Das was driven to suicide due to extreme mental stress, reportedly linked to her professional environment.
Calling it a “tragic and avoidable loss,” the Nagaon District Congress Committee demanded a high-level investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Addressing the gathering, Congress workers criticized the BJP government for its continued apathy toward women's issues and for failing to create a safe and supportive workplace environment.
They also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry to ensure justice and transparency in the case.
