The Assam Congress has intensified its organizational activities in Baokhungri BTC Constituency, ahead of the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.
The Baokhungri BTC Constituency is a stronghold of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF). While both BPF and UPPL are preparing for a tough electoral battle, the Congress is also actively strengthening its grassroots presence in the region.
Earlier today, the Congress party held a meeting at Owabari village under Baokhungri constituency to reinforce its organizational base. In the presence of Kokrajhar District Congress President Prem Hasda, two committees were formed under the party's frontal wings — the Youth Congress and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI).
Amir Basumatary, a former ABSU (All Bodo Students’ Union) activist, was appointed as president of the Youth Congress unit, while Binod Rabha, a former ARSU (All Rabha Student Union) activist was chosen to head the NSUI unit. Both committees comprise 30 active members each and aim to boost the party’s presence in the area.
Meanwhile, Sunil Narzary, a young and emerging leader and a probable Congress candidate from the Baokhungri BTC constituency, expressed strong confidence while speaking to reporters. He claimed that the Congress is receiving overwhelming public support in Baokhungri this time.
He also criticized incumbent BPF MLA Daneswar Goyari, who has represented the constituency for the past 20 years, alleging that no substantial development has taken place during his tenure. Narzary further claimed that even though the UPPL is currently in power, the people of Baokhungri have not benefitted from their governance either.
