Assam court sentences man to life for murder in Abhayapuri; advocate daughter breaks down after verdict

A court in Abhayapuri of Assam’s Bongaigaon district on March 12 sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of a local resident in 2023, bringing an emotional moment for the victim’s daughter who is now an advocate.

The court of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate in Abhayapuri was given life imprisonment to Krishna Shil in connection with the murder of Tarani Das. The case was registered at Yogighopa Police Station.

According to reports, Tarani Das was brutally attacked with a sharp weapon and killed on March 8, 2023, during the celebrations of Holi.

The victim’s daughter, Bibhanjali Das, a resident of Pallitol in Yogighopa, was a law student at the time of the incident. Determined to seek justice for her father, she had vowed to pursue the case through legal means.

After the verdict was pronounced, Bibhanjali, who now practises as an advocate in the same court, broke down in tears inside the court premises.

Speaking to reporters, she said she felt relieved and satisfied after the court delivered justice for her father. She added that as a law student and a daughter who lost her father, the judgment meant a great deal to her.

The verdict brought emotional scenes at the court complex, with Bibhanjali expressing gratitude that the legal system had delivered justice in the case.
