Assam: Drugs worth Rs 28 crore seized in Cachar, three arrested in joint anti-narcotics operation

The Cachar Police and the 38 Assam Rifles seized Yaba tablets and heroin worth an estimated Rs 28 crore and arrested three alleged drug traffickers in Assam's Cachar district.

The joint operation was carried out at Motinagar, located at the foothills of Bhuban Hill under Lakhipur Police Station, based on specific intelligence inputs.

During the operation, the team recovered 1.10 lakh Yaba tablets, weighing approximately 14 kilograms, and 223 grams of heroin concealed inside 10 soap cases.

Officials said the total market value of the seized contraband is estimated to be around Rs 28 crore.

Preliminary testing of the seized substances confirmed them to be Yaba (methamphetamine) and heroin.

The arrested accused have been identified as Mayajul Haque (23), a resident of Kalakhal; Stelmon (19), a resident of Bhuban Hill; and Nur Hussain (32), a resident of Kalakhal. Police said all three are residents of areas under the jurisdiction of Kachudaram Police Station.

A case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further legal action has been initiated.

Police are investigating the source and intended destination of the seized narcotics, besides probing the accused's possible links with a wider drug trafficking network.

Additional Superintendent of Police Manas Saikia said the anti-narcotics drive would continue and warned that those involved in drug trafficking would face strict action.

"We will continue our anti-drug operations, and no person involved in narcotics trafficking will be spared," Saikia said.
