In a disturbing incident of police misconduct, Pradum Chhetri, an MBA student, was subjected to assault by Lekhapani police officers while allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The incident, which occurred during nighttime on June 26, involved Pranjal Phukan, identified as the Sub-Inspector (SI) of Lekhapani police station, along with three other policemen.
Eyewitnesses reported that Pranjal Phukan, not in police uniform, forcibly removed Chhetri from a parked Fortuner car along a highway and proceeded to physically assault him, accompanied by abusive language.
Following the incident, Chhetri's family members have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Lekhapani police station, demanding justice against both Pranjal Phukan and the officers involved in the assault.
