An elderly woman died after allegedly falling into a water-filled room at Dighliati village in Mahguri under Juria Police Station in Assam’s Nagaon district, following a dispute over a piece of land.
The deceased has been identified as Sahura Khatun, reportedly aged above 60.
According to local allegations, Aminul Islam and Hanufa Khatun had allegedly constructed a concrete boundary wall around the homestead of another family in connection with a land dispute. The wall reportedly prevented rainwater from draining out, resulting in water accumulating around and inside the house.
The elderly woman allegedly fell into the accumulated water inside the house and died. The exact circumstances surrounding her death are yet to be established.
Juria Police reached the spot and have initiated an investigation into the incident. Further details are expected to emerge after the police inquiry.
The incident has triggered concern in Dighliati village, with questions being raised over the alleged land dispute and the circumstances that led to the waterlogging of the affected household.
