Assam: Eviction drive underway on 55 hectares of reserve forest land in Goalpara

An eviction drive is currently underway in the Lakhipur Bandarmatha reserve forest in Assam's Goalpara district, where 55 hectares of forest land are being cleared. The operation aims to remove illegal encroachments from the area, and most of the encroachers had vacated their homes before the drive began.

 The reserve forest, previously occupied by illegal settlers, is now being reclaimed as part of the ongoing efforts to prevent encroachments in Assam's forested areas.

 Local officials have remained tight-lipped about the number of people displaced, but the operation is part of a larger government initiative to protect the state's natural resources and maintain the integrity of its reserved forests. 

No reports of resistance or conflict have surfaced so far, and the drive is expected to continue until the entire area is cleared.
