In a major security alert ahead of Republic Day celebrations, a huge consignment of explosive materials was recovered from Badarpur Railway Station in Assam’s border district of Sribhumi, triggering heightened vigilance across the railway network. One person has been detained in connection with the seizure, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The explosive haul was recovered by the Government Railway Police (GRP) during a routine security check on Platform No. 1 of Badarpur Railway Station. Acting on standard preventive protocols, GRP personnel conducted a thorough search of a young man moving suspiciously within the station premises, leading to the recovery.
The detained individual has been identified as Abdul Rahim, a resident of the Nilambazar police station area in Sribhumi district. Upon inspection, officials recovered approximately 10,000 explosive detonators from his possession, raising serious concerns over possible misuse during the sensitive pre–Republic Day period.
Security agencies have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the source, intended destination, and possible links of the seized detonators. Authorities are also probing whether the consignment was part of a larger network involved in the illegal transportation of explosive materials.
Following the seizure, security measures have been further tightened at railway stations and other sensitive locations across the region. Officials stated that coordination with intelligence agencies has been intensified to rule out any threat to public safety.
