In a major bust, Gohpur police have intercepted a night bus and seized 8.8 kilograms of fake gold bars. The raid took place in front of the Hawajan police station, where officers acted on a tip-off to search the bus registered as AS 15 C 9679, named Rishan.
The bus, traveling from Gogamukh to Barpeta Road, was halted based on specific intelligence. The driver and conductor reported that six passengers boarded the bus in Laluk. During the search, police discovered the fake gold concealed in six bags within the bus.
With no one claiming the bags, police have detained ten individuals for further questioning. Preliminary investigations suggest that the passengers from Laluk may have been transporting the counterfeit gold.
This seizure follows an earlier incident on August 3, when Doom Dooma police detained a woman carrying approximately 5 kilograms of counterfeit gold coins. The arrest took place in Rupai Siding, a locality within Assam’s Tinsukia district, after Dr. Bora, a local resident, reported suspicious activity. Dr. Bora alerted the police when the woman attempted to sell him the fake coins. Acting on the tip-off, police intercepted the woman and confirmed the coins were counterfeit.
