A fatal road accident has left one motorcycle rider dead on the spot, while leaving a teenager seriously injured, on the National Highway No 17 at Gauripur in Assam's Dhubri district.
The deadly vehicle collision happened on National Highway 17 close to the Targhat Baladamara area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Gauripur police station. The motorbike was being driven from Alomganj to Gauripur when it was hit by a freight truck that was heading towards Guwahati from Dhubri.
The collision claimed the life of the biker, identified as Lakhim Sarkar, and sent the critically ill minor, Albi Sarkar, to a hospital in Bongaigaon for further treatment. Both the victims are son of Barek Sarkar, a resident of Dampur village in Alomganj.
The freight truck bearing registration number AS-01KC-3871 and the number of the motorcycle is AS-17G-2709. The driver of the truck fled from the scene after the accident.
In the meantime, the Gauripur police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
