In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman lost her life due to electrocution in Nagapather under Inthem Gaon Panchayat in the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Janmashtami (September 15).
The deceased, identified as Pallbai Gogoi, wife of Nitul Gogoi, came into contact with a live electric wire near the entrance of her home while returning from Janmashtami celebrations at a local Namghar.
Locals and organizations have strongly condemned the alleged negligence of the APDCL electricity department in Margherita, blaming the department for failing to repair the faulty electric wire despite repeated complaints from the family.
The Bordumsa-Pengeri Regional Committee of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has demanded immediate compensation for the grieving family. The committee has also insisted that the electricity department take complete responsibility for the education of Pallbai Gogoi’s three children—two daughters and one son.
The union further warned that it would launch intense protests if these demands are not addressed promptly.
