A Community Resource Person (CRP) has been accused of misappropriating cheques issued under the Women Entrepreneurship Scheme to self-help group (SHG) members in Rampur Pam village in Assam’s Nagaon district, prompting a police complaint.
The complaint has been lodged at Batadrava Police Station against CRP Jasmina Khatun over the alleged irregularities involving beneficiaries of two self-help groups.
According to reports, cheques were issued in the names of 11 women belonging to the Asha SHG in Rampur Pam village. Khatun has been accused of misappropriating one of the cheques issued under the scheme.
In a separate allegation, the CRP is accused of withdrawing and misappropriating a cheque issued in the name of a deceased woman who was a member of another self-help group, Ronak.
Members of the two self-help groups have approached the police, seeking action over the alleged misappropriation of funds intended for women beneficiaries.
The allegations come as the Assam government implements schemes aimed at promoting women’s entrepreneurship and economic empowerment through financial assistance and self-help groups.
The allegations against Khatun are yet to be established. Further details regarding the police response and any action taken in connection with the complaint are awaited.
