In response to severe weather conditions, all ferry services operating between Nimati and Majuli have been suspended for May 28 and 29. This decision was made in consultation with the Majuli district administration and the Inland Water Transport Department (IWTD), prioritizing the safety of passengers and crew members.
Cyclonic weather has been causing dangerously high waves and fluctuating water levels, making navigation perilous.
The IWTD, in coordination with the district administration, has deemed it necessary to halt all ferry operations to prevent any potential accidents or mishaps.
A spokesperson from the IWTD emphasized that the suspension is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring public safety. "The safety of our passengers is our utmost priority. Given the current weather conditions, it is unsafe to operate the ferries," the spokesperson stated.
Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates on when services can safely resume.
Passengers are advised to stay informed through official channels and avoid unnecessary travel during this period.
Residents and commuters who rely on the ferry service for their daily transport are advised to make alternative arrangements.
The suspension has prompted concerns among regular travelers, but most understand the necessity of the decision.
