Assam floods: Over 2,800 people sheltered in 14 relief camps across Margherita

The Margherita Co-District Administration has intensified relief and rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected families, with 14 relief camps and relief distribution centres currently operational under the Margherita Revenue Circle in Assam's Tinsukia district.
 

According to the district administration, the camps are sheltering 2,829 people, including 2,051 adults and 778 children, from 1,133 flood-affected families.
 

The relief camps have been set up at Margherita Town LP School, Margherita Old Colony PWD Warehouse No. 1, Alubari LP School, No. 1 Fakiyal LP School, Khagoripather LP School, Likhajan LP School, Sat Joymoti LP School, Maharam Boro LP School, Nabajyoti LP School, Mullang LP School, Bashbari LP School, Jagun LP School, Namphai Tapu Relief Distribution Centre and Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi ME School.
 

Officials said relief materials, including rice, dal, edible oil, salt, drinking water, tarpaulins and other essential daily-use items, have been distributed to all camp inmates. The administration has also ensured sanitation facilities, lighting and other basic amenities at each camp.
 

To address healthcare needs, medical teams from Ketetong Block Primary Health Centre (BPHC) have organised health camps at the relief centres, providing health check-ups, treatment and essential medicines.
 

Special attention is being given to vulnerable groups, with pregnant women, lactating mothers, infants and young children receiving nutritious meals and supplementary nutrition.
 

The administration has also initiated the distribution of cattle fodder in flood-affected areas to support livestock owners whose livelihoods have been impacted by the floods.
 

Meanwhile, a Flood Control Room has been made operational at the Office of the Circle Officer, Revenue and Disaster Management, Margherita Revenue Circle, to respond to emergencies and coordinate rescue and relief efforts.

The administration has appealed to the public to remain vigilant, follow official advisories and cooperate with authorities to ensure effective disaster response and relief operations.
