In a major crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Branch on Saturday apprehended a forest official red-handed while accepting a bribe in Bijulibari, under the Sipajhar area of Assam.
The accused, Aminul Islam, is a Beat Officer posted at the Kurua Regional Forest Office. According to sources, Islam had been allegedly demanding monthly payments of Rs 30,000 from tractor and dumper owners in exchange for allowing soil excavation activities in the region.
Acting on a tip-off, anti-corruption officials laid a trap and caught him in the act while he was receiving Rs 5,000 in cash.
Islam has been taken into custody, and a detailed investigation into the matter is currently underway. Authorities have stated that further legal action will be initiated based on the findings of the probe.
