The human-elephant conflict in Assam’s Nagaon district has taken a serious turn, with a wild elephant continuing to create panic in the Gendhali area of Samaguri.
According to local residents, the elephant has been roaming freely across different parts of the region and has been carrying out destruction during the night hours. Several houses and agricultural fields have reportedly been damaged in repeated attacks, leaving villagers in fear.
Residents alleged that the elephant enters inhabited areas almost every night, causing extensive damage to property and crops. The recurring incidents have heightened concern among people living in the affected villages.
Locals also suspect that the same rogue elephant, which allegedly killed two persons in Samaguri on Friday, is responsible for the latest incidents in Gendhali. However, forest officials are yet to officially confirm the claim.
Meanwhile, the Udmari Sub-Divisional Forest Office has been making continuous efforts to drive the elephant back towards the nearby hills. Despite repeated attempts, the animal has not yet been successfully pushed out of the populated areas.
The situation has raised fresh concerns over the growing human-elephant conflict in the region, with residents urging authorities to take immediate and effective measures to prevent further loss and damage.
