In a major political shift in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), former BTC Deputy Chief and ex-BPF Vice President Kampa Borgoyary has formally joined the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL).
His induction took place today at a grand program held at Thaikhajhora playground in Chirang district, where he was accompanied by over 400 supporters and well-wishers.
UPPL President and BTR Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro extended a warm welcome to Borgoyary, presenting him with the traditional Aronai and a bouquet.
The event witnessed a large turnout, signalling the growing support for UPPL in the region.
Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that elections for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) will be conducted before September 30, ensuring the process is completed ahead of the Assembly elections.
Speaking to the media, Sarma expressed confidence that the elections would be held before Durga Puja.

"The BTC elections will be held before September 30 so that the process ends well in advance of the Assembly elections. We are confident that the elections will take place before Durga Puja," Sarma stated.
Addressing queries about the BJP's alliance with the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), the Chief Minister emphasized that the decision would be based on discussions between UPPL leader Pramod Boro and Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia.
"The entire decision regarding the alliance will be taken based on the understanding between Pramod Boro and Dilip Saikia," Sarma remarked, indicating a collaborative approach toward forming alliances for the elections.
"If contesting together ensures more seats, both parties will proceed jointly. However, if contesting separately yields better results, they will go their separate ways," said the Chief Minister, highlighting a pragmatic approach to the alliance.
It is to be noted there that Borgoyary’s decision to switch sides follows his resignation as Vice President of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). His move is being viewed as a major gain for UPPL, which continues to expand its political influence in BTR.
With this high-profile induction, UPPL has further strengthened its position ahead of upcoming political developments in the region.
