In a sensational development, former Assam minister Nilamani Sen Deka's daughter-in-law has accused her husband and in-laws of domestic violence.
The daughter-in-law turned up at her father's house yesterday after she alleged that she was thrown out of her in-law's house.
As per reports, the daughter-in-law has alleged that Nilamani Sen Deka's son Rajarshi and his family members have been committing domestic violence on her. The daughter-in-law stated that she has undergone physical and mental abuse during her married time.
"Right after marriage, my husband began to physically abuse me. He stopped talking to me. He seemed to have no attachment towards me. A lot of physical abuse was committed on me ahead of Magh Bihu. He used to beat up even after that. When I raised the matter with my in-laws, my father-in-law said that he can drop me off to me father's house. I thought how ca I go back to my house so soon? I tried to work things out but the spell of violence continued and he kept making degrading comments on me and my family. His mother also sported a similiar attitude towards me and looked down on me," said the daughter-in-law.
The victim and Deka's son had got married on March 9, last year. The daughter-in-law further said on the advice of her in-laws, she went o her father's house earlier this year in March. However, nobody contacted from her in-laws' house after that. All the attempts to contact her husband and her in-laws proved to be futile. Her uncle arranged a meeting, where the in-laws said that they are considering a divorce.
"I want justice because I did not get married just to get divorced like this. Getting divorced is not a joke. Also, after six months of marriage, I discovered that my husband is already a divorcee. This was not told to us before marriage. I found it out myself when I told documents in my in-laws house while cleaning things. They were clearly dishonest regarding facts from the beginning itself. Today I am at a loss as to what to do," said the daughter-in-law.
So far, no case has been registered in this regard. Images of the victim's injury marks from the alleged domestic violence has been flashed by local media on the other hand.
The victim, meanwhile, has stated that she is considering taking legal action against her husband and in-laws.
