Assam girl takes five day long trek to Mount Everest base camp

If one has dreams, then they can always be achieved. This holds true for Assam girl Wasifa Ahmed, who took a thirteen day long trek to the base camp of the imposing Mount Everest. 

27 year old Wasifa, who hails from  Dhai Ali in Sivasagar district, had a childhood dream of reaching upto the Everest. With a group of peers, Wasifa began her trek to the Everest base camp on foot from Lukla in Nepal and managed to reach the base camp in a span of five days. 

Having taken some training in mountaineering thanks to her job at the ONGC, Wasifa went upto Lukla with just some food, clothing and medicines during her perilous trek to the Everest base camp. 

And when she finally reached the base camp, there she unfurled Assam's cultural pride - the Gamosa, among the windy heights of the Himalayas. 

Now back home, Wasifa has an exciting story to tell, and has become a living example of dreams coming true. 

"I believe women can achieve anything. My family members also supported me in this. With family's support a girl can do anything. When I had lost contact in between, my mother was most worried about me. But since my uncle went there with me, the tension was diffused to quite some extent. Because a family member was with me. For anyone who wants to reach the Everest base camp, it is best to go there after proper practice. Or else one would face problems because there are breathing problems. There is a lot of walking. There is atleast ten hours of walking daily. So it is better to practice," said Wasifa, sharing her experience.
