An eviction drive took place at Tangabari in Dudhnoi. On May 3, two teenage girls were raped by three youths from Tangabari and a beating incident occurred on May 5 following that. Hiranmoy Khakhlari, who was seriously injured in the beating, died at a Guwahati hospital on May 17.
The main accused in the rape case, Dhan Ali, Bahar Ali, Rahman Ali, Shekhawar Ali, Sonia Begum, and Ramzan Ali, have been detained by the police and sent to jail.
Various groups led by ABSU protested against the incident, demanding punishment for the culprits through a fast-track trial and compensation for the families of the victims.
About two months later, Assam ministers Urkhao Gaura Brahma and Jayantamalla Baruah visited the victims' families.
Following the ministers' visit, the Goalpara district administration ordered an eviction drive in the houses of all the accused in Tangabari.
The administration had earlier informed that the houses of the accused, including the main accused Dhan Ali Talukdar, were on government land. The eviction drive will continue in phases.
