Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on November 28 announced a new scheme aimed at supporting students preparing for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations in 2026. In his routine interactive video message, the chief minister said that every eligible student will receive monthly financial assistance of Rs. 300, with the amount to be transferred directly to students’ bank accounts to ensure transparency and timely support.
CM Sarma said, “The government of Assam is committed to stand by our students as they prepare for the HSLC exam. To give them an extra push in their preparation, we will give them Rs. 300 per month till their exams are over.” He further added that the government will provide free admission to colleges for students, strengthening educational access across the state.
This announcement follows several landmark initiatives introduced by the chief minister to uplift the student community. Recently, the government launched the ‘Nijut Moina’ scheme, a programme aimed at empowering girl students and combating child marriage. Under this scheme, all girl students will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 1,000. With a budgetary allocation of Rs. 1,500 crore and nearly 10 lakh beneficiaries expected, Nijut Moina aims to enhance girls’ financial independence, delay early marriages, and significantly improve the gross enrollment ratio of girls in higher education.
