Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi has accused the Assam government of favoritism in awarding major construction projects, claiming that only two or three contractors are consistently selected for works such as flyovers, medical colleges, and other infrastructure developments.
Speaking to India Today NE, Bordoloi alleged that this selective approach raises questions about transparency and accountability in the state’s project allocation process. “The government seems to focus solely on benefiting a handful of contractors, while overall development takes a backseat,” he remarked.
The MP also linked this alleged favoritism to the broader issues plaguing the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) 2.0 in the Northeast, where only 19% of allocated funds have been disbursed since 2021. Bordoloi highlighted that this lack of transparency, coupled with slow fund release, has hindered the region’s progress in waste management and infrastructure development.
