Assam govt to launch mega eviction drive to clear 1143 bighas of encroached land in Goalpara’s Dahikata Reserve Forest

The Assam Government is gearing up for one of its largest eviction operations yet, targeting 1143 bighas of encroached land in the Dahikata Reserve Forest area of Goalpara district. 

The mega drive, scheduled for November 9 and 10, aims to reclaim government forest land illegally occupied for years.

According to officials, all necessary preparations have been completed, and notices have been served to illegal occupants well ahead of the operation. 

The administration has assured that the eviction will be carried out in coordination with the police and forest departments to ensure a smooth and peaceful process.

This comes months after the Goalpara district administration conducted a massive eviction in June 2025 at Hasila Beel, where around 1,500 bighas of government land were freed from encroachment.

That operation targeted 667 illegally occupied households and unauthorised structures, including five schools.

Authorities had then issued public notices, banners, and loudspeaker announcements urging residents to vacate by June 15, but many structures—including homes, shops, and even private water pipelines—remained standing until they were demolished.

Officials said the upcoming eviction in Dahikata Reserve Forest is part of the government’s broader campaign to restore encroached public land and protect forest areas from illegal settlements, in line with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s emphasis on “zero tolerance” toward land encroachment across Assam.
