A family residing in Guwahati’s Katiram Medhi Path, near Kali Mandir Switch Gate in the Dispur area, is facing a serious security crisis after a shocking incident of illegal house occupation.
On Friday, July 2, while the family was away in Jorhat to attend to the critical condition of an elderly mother who passed away the same day, a group of goons allegedly broke into their residence at House No. 2, 1st Floor, taking advantage of their absence.
According to sources, the landlord of the rented house allegedly colluded with several outsiders to forcefully enter the residence without any prior legal notice or tenant’s consent. The intruders reportedly broke through the lower section of the house, dragged household belongings outside, and took over the property.
What has shocked locals even more is that this act was carried out in broad daylight, just a few meters from the Dispur capital complex, raising serious concerns about the law and order situation in the heart of Assam’s capital.
Eyewitnesses say the goons not only vandalized the property but have since remained inside the house, having unlawfully taken control of the premises. Several valuable household items were still seen lying outside the residence as of the last report.
Dispur Police, after being informed of the situation on Friday night, detained a few individuals allegedly involved in the act. However, for reasons yet unknown, all of them were reportedly released the same night. Shockingly, the same individuals are said to have returned to the house and are currently occupying it by force.
The affected family has filed a formal complaint (FIR) with Dispur Police Station, and they have also reported the matter to the Superintendent of Police.
This incident has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of police intervention, the role of the landlord, and the overall safety of law-abiding citizens, especially in the state capital.
