Assam: Hailakandi administration demolishes former MLA’s gate, boundary wall over alleged encroachment

The Hailakandi district administration on Monday, September 21, carried out an eviction drive at Dhaleswar Point in Panchgram, demolishing a gate and boundary wall allegedly built on government land by former MLA Nizam Uddin Choudhury.

A bulldozer was used during the operation to remove the structures, following allegations that government land at the site had been encroached upon.

According to reports, the land had been cleared of the alleged encroachment on Saturday following the intervention of MLA Dr Milan Das. The administration, however, returned to the site on Monday and removed the gate and boundary wall.

The action led to a gathering of people at Dhaleswar Point and created a stir in the area.

The administration’s move came in connection with the alleged unauthorised occupation and construction on government land.
