Assam: Handcuffed Ronaldo escapes Haflong Hospital, manhunt on

A prisoner identified as Ronaldo Haflongbar escaped from Haflong Civil Hospital on the morning of December 22, triggering a search operation by the Dima Hasao Police.
According to official sources, Haflongbar was lodged at the Haflong Jail and was serving a sentence in connection with a case of physical assault under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He was admitted to the Haflong Civil Hospital on December 21 for medical treatment.
Haflong Jail is also currently housing accused drummer Shekharjyoti Goswami and singer Amrit Prabha Mahanta in connection with the Zubeen Garg case. Other accused in the case, Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Sandipan Garg, along with PSOs Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Borah, are lodged at Baksa District Jail.
The escaped prisoner is a resident of Gunjung village in Dima Hasao district. Police said Haflongbar managed to flee from the hospital premises despite being restrained with handcuffs at the time of the escape.
Following the incident, the Dima Hasao Police launched a manhunt to trace the prisoner. Search operations have been intensified in and around Haflong, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the escape.
Authorities have assured that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend the escaped prisoner at the earliest.
