Tension gripped Frontier Senior Secondary School in Sribhumi, Assam after a pistol was recovered from the pocket of a class 11 student during classroom hours.
According to reports, the incident came to light when student Shyam Kuri was repeatedly seen putting his hand into his pocket, arousing suspicion.
The teacher, suspecting that he might be carrying a mobile phone—which is banned on campus—checked his pocket and instead discovered a pistol.
The school authorities immediately informed both the student’s guardian and the police. A team from the Sadar Police Station arrived promptly, seizing the pistol and escorting the student along with his father to the police station for questioning.
The school principal later revealed that the student had informed police that a masked man allegedly handed him the weapon on his way to school, threatening to kill him and his father if he refused to keep it.
Police have since launched an investigation into the incident. While preliminary suspicion suggests that the firearm may actually be an air gun, serious questions remain over who provided such a weapon to a school student and with what intent.
