Assam: Health department under secretary investigates sexual harassment allegations in Sribhumi

Anshulekha Dutta Pathak, Under Secretary of the Health Department, arrived in Sribhumi, Assam to investigate allegations of sexual harassment against a female employee. The case has sparked significant concern, prompting the formation of an inquiry committee.

The allegations stem from a disturbing incident at the Sribhumi Additional CM Office, where Head Assistant Sahabuddin was accused of making inappropriate advances and mentally harassing a female colleague. Following a written complaint lodged with the Joint Director, a six-member committee was established to probe the matter.

Today, the Under Secretary, along with the Additional Deputy Commissioner overseeing Sribhumi’s health department, convened discussions in the District Commissioner’s conference hall. The meeting included the Additional CM, the hospital superintendent, and a doctor, who reportedly referred the accused, Sahabuddin, to Guwahati Medical College for questioning.

Commenting on the developments, Additional Deputy Commissioner Minerva Arambagh confirmed that the inquiry committee had submitted its report and that the investigation remained ongoing. She further stated that, if required, the district administration might escalate the case to a magistrate-level probe.

Meanwhile, sources suggest that Sahabuddin, fearing repercussions, sought refuge with Dr. Manjul Haque at Katigorah Primary Health Center in Cachar district. The doctor reportedly deemed him unwell and referred him to Guwahati Medical College. However, when approached by media. Manjul Haque refrained from commenting and left the scene in his vehicle.
