A court-ordered demolition was carried out on Monday, July 14 at the Tukur Bazar Primary Health Centre (PHC) under South Karimganj constituency, leading to the partial razing of the government facility amid tight security arrangements.
Acting on a directive from the court, the local administration launched an eviction operation that saw a significant portion of the hospital premises, including its boundary wall, being brought down by bulldozers. The drive was executed in the presence of the Circle Officer, Superintendent of Police, and a sizeable police force, ensuring law and order during the operation.
Sources reveal that a portion of the land on which the hospital stood had been under private ownership for nearly a decade. Allegations have emerged that the land was encroached upon during the tenure of local MLA Siddique Ahmed, who allegedly facilitated the hospital's construction on disputed land.
The aggrieved landowner had filed a legal challenge, following which the court ruled in his favor, ordering the administration to clear the encroachment. Responding to the legal mandate, the district authorities undertook the demolition early this morning.
Amid growing political reactions, South Karimganj MLA Siddique Ahmed has issued a statement addressing the situation, though the content of the statement is yet to be publicly disclosed.
