Goalpara Police late Tuesday, January 20 night seized a massive consignment of Yaba tablets during a targeted operation along National Highway-17, dealing a major blow to narcotics networks operating in the district.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police intercepted a vehicle near Bhimajuli under Agia Police Station limits and apprehended a suspected drug supplier, identified as Sirajul Islam, a resident of Krishnai. The operation led to the recovery of approximately 4,000 Yaba tablets, suspected to be intended for distribution across the region.
The raid was conducted under the supervision of West Goalpara Co-District Police Officer Abhilash Baruah and Deputy Superintendent of Police Alangkrita Saikia, with personnel from Agia Police Station and Goalpara Town Police jointly executing the operation. During the search, police seized a Swift Dzire car (registration number AS-01BB-7144) used to transport the contraband.
According to police sources, the seized narcotics are estimated to be worth over ₹4 lakh in the illegal market. The accused has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested individual may be part of a wider drug trafficking network, and police suspect the involvement of additional persons in the supply chain. Further probes are underway to trace the source and intended destination of the consignment.
Officials stated that the successful seizure reflects Goalpara Police’s sustained efforts to curb drug trafficking and dismantle organised narcotics networks in the district.
