In a double murder case reported from Assam's Nagaon district on May 21, a man allegedly murdered his wife and a TET-qualified teacher inside a rented house in Kampur. The victims have been identified as Geeta Rani Das and Bhaskar Nath.
According to sources, both victims were brutally beaten to death with a rod. The accused, Jayakanta Das, who is reportedly the husband of Geeta Rani, surrendered himself at the Kampur Police Station shortly after committing the crime.
Police officials have arrived at the crime scene and launched a detailed investigation. While the exact motive behind the killings has not been confirmed, preliminary suspicions point toward an extramarital affair between the two victims as the possible trigger for the double murder.
It has been revealed that both Geeta Rani Das and Bhaskar Nath were living in the same rented accommodation. The deceased TET teacher, Bhaskar Nath, was a resident of Mangaldoi. Meanwhile, both Geeta Rani and the accused husband Jayakanta hail from Dev Narikali in Kampur.
Authorities continue to probe the case as the community reels from the brutality of the incident.
