An injured deer was rescued by local residents from the banks of the Kolong River near Jayantipur Moria village in Kaliabor on Sunday. The deer, found lying in distress with a maggot-infested wound on one of its legs, was later handed over to the Silghat Forest Department for medical treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the animal was spotted in a severely weakened state near the riverbank. Concerned about its deteriorating condition, villagers quickly contacted forest officials while ensuring the deer remained safe from further harm.
Forest personnel from the Silghat range responded promptly, arriving at the scene and carefully transporting the injured animal to a nearby veterinary facility. Officials confirmed that the deer is currently undergoing treatment and is expected to recover under medical supervision.
This incident has highlighted the growing awareness and involvement of local communities in wildlife protection. Residents of Jayantipur Moria village expressed hope that the deer would survive and be released back into the wild once fully recovered.
