A major strike by Jal Mitra workers under the Jal Jeevan Mission has brought water supply services in Kokrajhar to a standstill since January 3.
The protest, led by Jal Mitra from the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), took place at the Kokrajhar Public Health Engineering (PHE) Division office, where workers demanded the release of pending salaries and an increment in their wages.
Operating under the banner of the All Assam PHE Temporary Workers’ Association, the striking workers warned that water supply services would remain suspended until their demands are met by the government.
The strike has disrupted water supply across the region, raising concerns among residents who rely on the services provided under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The protest highlights long-standing grievances of temporary workers, emphasizing the urgent need for resolution to ensure the smooth operation of essential services in the area.
