Medical sector executives from Japan have expressed interest in expanding healthcare services in Assam during the ongoing Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, following direct outreach from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
"We are from Japan. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visited our company in Japan and invited us to join the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit," said Yoshihiro Tokushige from Konoike India Pvt Ltd in an interview with India Today NE. "We are engaged in the medical business in India, and if we find opportunities to expand this business in Assam, I see its feasibility."
The summit has attracted healthcare companies looking to establish specialised medical services in the northeastern state.
Hitesh Mehta, Founder and CEO of SPD India Healthcare Pvt Ltd, outlined his company's pioneering work: "We are India's first company to start outsourced sterilisation centres for hospitals. We are currently Delhi-based, and we are looking forward to establishing ourselves in Assam and improving the quality of medical supplies and operation theatres to reduce hospital-acquired infection rates."
Mehta added that his company aims to leverage "Japanese support and with the CM and honourable Prime Minister Modi's vision" to contribute to Assam's development.
The Japanese executives also praised Assam's environment. "India is a very nice place, and Assam is also very nice. The weather here is pleasant," remarked Mamoru Murakami, Director at SPD India Healthcare Pvt Ltd.
The healthcare initiatives align with the broader investment goals of the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, which seeks to attract diverse international business interests to the state.
