Assam journalist assaulted, media office vandalised in Silchar; one detained

A 25-year-old journalist from Assam’s Silchar was allegedly assaulted by a group of unidentified miscreants, while the office of local media house Barak Bani was vandalised on the evening of May 28.

According to reports, the incident took place around 7:30 PM when the journalist was reportedly attacked by several youths. The attackers also allegedly vandalised the office premises, creating panic in the area.

An FIR has been lodged at the police station in connection with the incident. The complaint mentions allegations related to unlawful trespass, attempt to murder, robbery and vandalism.

Police said that one youth has been detained so far in connection with the case, while CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify the remaining accused involved in the attack.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
