The 25th death anniversary of Martyr Bineswar Brahma, former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha and a prominent figure in the Bodo literary movement, was observed with solemnity and reverence at his burial site in Chandamari, Kokrajhar, on Tuesday.
Brahma, who was assassinated on August 19, 2000, by unidentified assailants, is remembered as a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the promotion of Bodo language, literature, and cultural identity. Since his untimely death, the Bodo Sahitya Sabha has annually commemorated the day as a mark of respect for his enduring legacy.
The program commenced with the hoisting of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha flag at half-mast by its president, Dr. Surath Narzary, followed by floral tributes at Brahma’s burial site and statue. The ceremony was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices he made for his people and culture.
An open discussion session followed, where speakers reflected on Brahma’s invaluable contributions to the Bodo community. His pivotal role in shaping the Bodo literary movement and his vision for cultural empowerment were highlighted during the deliberations.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including Assam Cabinet Minister UG Brahma, MLA Lawrence Islary, BTC Legislative Assembly Speaker Katiram Boro, and Kokrajhar University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gonesh Wary. All paid homage to the martyr and pledged to carry forward his mission of strengthening Bodo identity and cultural heritage.
