Assam: Ledo hosts national literary confluence as two-day Rashtriya Sahitya Sanmilan concludes successfully

The two-day Ledo Rashtriya Sahitya Sanmilan concluded successfully on January 18, bringing together eminent poets, litterateurs, and literary enthusiasts from across the country. The national-level literary conference, held on January 17 and 18, celebrated India’s rich literary heritage while fostering dialogue, creativity, and cultural unity.

The conference commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony held in the evening, paying tribute to iconic cultural stalwarts Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Bhupen Hazarika, and Zubeen Garg. The ceremonial lighting of the lamps was led by renowned poet and litterateur Pranay Phukan of Dibrugarh, marking a dignified beginning to the literary gathering.

The inaugural session was enriched by a melodious group song presented by Babita Das Choudhury and her companions, setting an evocative and welcoming tone for the event. Delivering the welcome address, eminent poet and litterateur Dr. Ranjit Dutta, who also serves as the president of the organising committee, highlighted the significance of national literary platforms in nurturing creative expression and preserving cultural values.

The Ledo Rashtriya Sahitya Sanmilan was formally inaugurated by Basudev Das from Kolkata, who underscored the role of literature in strengthening social consciousness and national integration.

Participation from poets and writers representing diverse regions of the country added depth and diversity to the programme. Poetry recitations and literary interactions transformed the chilly winter evening into a lively and intellectually stimulating experience for the audience.

A key highlight of the concluding day was the announcement that three distinguished personalities—late Dr. Birendra Nath Baruah, Bhupen Chandra Neog, and Suren Phukan—would be posthumously honoured with National Memorial Awards in recognition of their enduring contributions across various fields.

The organising committee expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response and appealed to the public for continued cooperation, support, and participation in future literary initiatives.
