Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Lurinjyoti Gogoi on Thursday, April 9 rejected allegations made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the reported incident of election-related violence at Kutuhat in Khowang, describing the claims as unfounded and politically motivated.
Addressing the media, Gogoi termed the allegations a “reflection of frustration” on the part of the ruling party. He asserted that the violence reported a day earlier stemmed from an internal conflict within the BJP, and alleged that the brother of a BJP MLA had physically assaulted an individual identified as Dulal Gogoi.
The AJP candidate further alleged that incidents of violence continued on the following day, claiming that a section of BJP members attacked three AJP leaders. The individuals were identified as District Committee Vice-President Chitrakamal Sandikai, Constituency Committee Secretary Samudra Baruah, and Youth Wing General Secretary Sakhyar Jyoti Baruah.
Raising additional concerns, Gogoi alleged that several Hindi-speaking individuals from outside the area were being sheltered in an abandoned house. He expressed suspicion that their presence could be linked to attempts at electoral malpractice, including possible vote manipulation or interference with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
