Assam: Maha Ashtami Puja in Baksa marks spirit of unity across communities

The holy occasion of Maha Ashtami was celebrated with grandeur and devotion at the 73rd Rupohi Regional Sri Sri Durga Puja Mahotsav in Baksa district, in unison with festivities across Assam. From early morning, devotees in large numbers thronged the puja venue to offer prayers to Goddess Durga.
The Rupohi Mahotsav stood out for its celebration of unity in diversity, as people from different ethnic and cultural communities joined hands in devotion. A heartfelt tribute was also paid to Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg, with devotees offering flowers at a dedicated corner set up in his memory.
Conducted in compliance with all government guidelines, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Bodo, Koch, Kachari, Rabha, Madahi, Sarania, Bengali, and other communities. Thousands of worshippers sought blessings of Maa Durga, praying for protection from evil and misfortune, while reinforcing harmony and brotherhood in the region.
