Assam man found hanging in Rajnagar; Dholai police probe whether suicide or foul play

A sense of shock and concern has gripped the Rajnagar area under Dholai Police Station in Assam's Cachar district after the body of a man was found hanging inside his residence. Police have launched an investigation to determine whether the death was a case of suicide or involved foul play.

The deceased has been identified as Ruhul Uddin Talukdar (35), son of Muslim Uddin Talukdar and a resident of Rajnagar.

According to family members, Ruhul Uddin returned home from the market on Sunday and informed his wife, Hasina Begum Borbhuiya, that he had sustained an injury to his leg following an altercation with someone at the marketplace. He later asked his wife to go to her parental home, which reportedly led to a minor argument between the couple. Following the disagreement, Hasina left for her parents' house, leaving Ruhul alone at home.

Local residents claimed that some unusual activity was noticed in the house late on Sunday night. Upon entering the residence, they reportedly found Ruhul Uddin hanging by a rope. News of the incident quickly spread across the locality, triggering panic and speculation among residents.

After being informed, the deceased's wife rushed to the spot. She stated that her husband had been suffering from health complications for the past five months. To support the family and meet medical expenses, she had been working in several households. She further claimed that Ruhul, who was involved in a small business, was burdened with debts amounting to nearly Rs 2 lakh. According to her, the financial pressure and prolonged illness had left him mentally distressed.

On Monday morning, personnel from Dholai Police Station arrived at the scene and recovered the body in the presence of local panchayat representatives and other prominent residents. The body was later sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police officials said an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of death. They added that only after receiving the post-mortem report will it be possible to determine whether the case was a suicide or if any other circumstances were involved.

The incident has sparked widespread discussion in the area, with many questions remaining unanswered as police continue their probe.
